Three Things to Know: Knights at Power – 01/06/22

KIPPA-RING, REDCLIFFE | 01.5.22 | Mark Majdandzic

The sun is out and it feels like a lifetime since we have seen the red, white and blue in action. Tonight’s Australia Cup game has been postponed three times but chances are high that we get to see whether the Knights can progress through to the next stage at AJ Kelly Park. Here are three things to know before tonight’s clash;

LACK OF GAME TIME

The extended delay amongst the entire SE Queensland footballing circles due to wet weather has caused a number of dilemmas for teams. It seems like a lifetime ago that the Knights earned a tough derby win against Gold Coast United and haven’t seen the playing field (or barely any field for that matter) in quite some time. Our opponents Peninsula Power have been lucky to play some games in recent weeks so it will be interesting to see how both teams fare in what could be a long night at AJ Kelly.

LAST TRIP TO AJ KELLY

The last time we played at AJ Kelly the Knights fell 1-0 after a 4th minute free kick from Antony Poljak. Despite a bulk of possession to the Knights and numerous chances a breakthrough could not be made and points were dropped. Despite that, a cup game poses a whole other element of knockout football that the Knights have been successful in throughout the years.

CAPITALISE EARLY

Getting on top early and taking the chances that fall your way can be the difference in Cup games especially against strong opposition like Peninsula Power. Power have gone through various stages this season so ensuring that any early dominance is taken advantage of could prove vital if we are to progress through to Round 6 of the Australia Cup.
