Three Things to Know: Knights at Olympic – 04/06/22

YERONGA, BRISBANE | 04.6.22 | Mark Majdandzic

After the midweek Cup game the attention now turns towards a big NPL QLD clash against Olympic FC at Goodwin Park. In our time in the NPL these clashes have always been played with high intensity and competitiveness so much of the same is expected this time around. Here are three things to know heading into the match;

BOUNCE BACK

The midweek Australia Cup fixture didn’t go as planned for the Knights as we fell to Peninsula Power. The focus now will solely be on the league and mounting a run of games to push as high up the table as possible which starts with one of the toughest tests in the league – away at Olympic. The home side got going in the last half hour against their opponents Redcliffe Dolphins running out 9-2 victors and both sides know the importance of three points this evening.

HISTORY

Knights and Olympic have a history of big games over the years with Grand Finals, Semi-Finals and crucial league games all playing their part in the chapters. Tonight another chapter will be written as both sides have strong aspirations for the 2022 season. In the current state of the league anything less than three points for either side could prove to be a major dent in title aspirations despite the long road ahead with catch up games and fixtures left.

FINISH CHANCES

It seems to be a recurring mention here but in big games you need to finish the chances that fall your way if you are any chance of winning games. Scoreboard pressure mounts if you capitalise on your opportunities and not doing so can have a knock on impact that can be difficult to come out of. In these big games, opportunities can be few and far between so ensuring that we capitalise could be the difference between taking something away from the game or nothing at all.
