Three Things to Know: Knights at Bulldogs – 26/03/22

CAPALABA | 26.3.22 | Mark Majdandzic

Rain has impacted the potential of the opening home game of the season at the Croatian Sports Centre but the show goes on as the fixture is reversed and we make our way to John Frederick Park in the Round 2 clash. Kick off is set for 6:30pm at John Frederick Field.

Here are three things to know before tonight’s contest:

NO PLACE LIKE HOME…OR?

Although the Knights were set for the first home game of the season the downpour on Friday afternoon sees the fixture forced to be reversed. However, a small sample size shows that Knights can equally perform away from home especially after last weekend’s 6-3 victory over Lions FC. The season schedule has been skewed heavily in favour of a second round of home games making the crunch time at the back end of the season home heavy.

The last time Knights travelled to John Frederick Field however the result was a 2-1 defeat in terrible playing conditions. Playing this early in the season could prove beneficial rather than the second round as fields should generally be in good condition.

ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK

The attacking options in the front third for the Knights were on full show last weekend with both new signings and existing squad members chiming in with crucial goals. The debuts of Mirza Muratovic, Pasquale De Vita and Kristian Brymora all brought goals with squad veterans Max Brown and Cai Tipaldo also adding to the fun.

The full attacking prowess of the Knights will be on show against Capalaba as they will be hoping momentum continues and gets them on the scoresheet for a valuable three points early in the season.

SOLIDIFYING THE BACK

The pre-season showed plenty of promise defensively as Knights rarely conceded goals in bunches. However, the game against Lions showed some defensive lapses in concentration that resulted in cheap goals. The focus will now be on ensuring the opposition have less time to get on the ascendancy and dominate the defensive third which has been a focal point for Scott McDonald’s side this season.

Expect the defensive third to bounce back this week and solidify their pre-season form with a solid defensive performance against a Capalaba side that did score two goals last weekend against Eastern Suburbs.
