After being postponed for the opening two rounds of the 2020 NPL Season, Gold Coast Knights FC are eager to get the ball rolling in the Grand Final re-match against Olympic FC this weekend.
The visitors travel down the M1 after playing their first two rounds, winning their first game 1-0 against Gold Coast United and were held last weekend to a 1-1 draw against Eastern Suburbs.
With a positive record against Olympic FC in the inaugural 2019 campaign, Knights midfielder Roman Hofmann said that the intensity is always the same against their opponents regardless of the fixture.
“Olympic are one of the top teams in Queensland have well and truly established themselves as heavyweights in our competition. Every time we go against them regardless of the competition or time we know what we are coming up against,” said Hofmann.
Having been forced to wait for their first game, Hofmann concluded that the determination to begin the campaign on the right note was even higher than it was two weeks ago.
“We were eager to get the campaign off to a good start, but with the weather intervening we have had to wait. During the last two weeks we have stayed ready and sharp and the boys are even more ready for the game on the weekend.”
Although Olympic lost two of their main contributors in front of goal last season in Chris Lucas and Alex Smith, the squad poses a number of threats in all areas that the Knights are wary of heading into the clash.
“We know that they have recruited well and will be prepared for this game. We respect them for the way they play but we are going into this game confident of getting the job done and chalking up all three points come Saturday night,” said Hofmann.
First team kick off is scheduled for 6:30pm with the U18’s and U20’s set for 2:15pm and 4:15pm respectively against Olympic FC also.
