Gold Coast Knights are in home action again when they welcome Brisbane City to the Croatian Sports Centre on Tuesday night (7:45pm KO).
Knights, who remain the NPL Queensland’s only undefeated side are set to do battle with City, just three days after securing a 1-0 victory over Young Roar at the same venue.
Knights Head Coach, Grae Piddick said Tuesday’s match would be a good test of both sides ability to deal with a short turnaround with City also coming off a win on Saturday, having beaten Capalaba 3-2 at John Fredericks Park.
“Obviously, it’s a short backup for both teams, so it’ll test the ability of both sides to turn things around very quickly after games on the Saturday and the importance of the whole squad will definitely come into things,” Piddick said.
“We played each other a few weeks ago so both teams have had a bit of a look at each other and won’t be expecting anything too dramatically different, last time it was a close contest and we’re expecting the same.”
Tuesday’s match will be the second meeting between the two sides this month, with a Jheison Macuace goal proving the difference as Knights defeated City 1-0 at CTM Stadium a fortnight ago.
Piddick, who’s side are looking to make it three wins on the trot said confidence was building ahead of what he expects to be another good battle for his team.
“The more games you win, always gives you that little bit extra confidence. Last time we played City we came in off the back of a couple of draws, we’ve since had a few wins so we’ve certainly improved our performance and we need to continue that as well,” Piddick said.
“City themselves are coming in off the back of two good wins so they’ll be going into the game confident and looking to get revenge for the previous game.
“We know it’s another game where we’re going to have to play at a really good level to get the win.”
Knights remain the competitions only undefeated side after title rivals Lions suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Brisbane Strikers last weekend.
Piddick said he was looking for his side, who have come away with 1-0 wins in each of their last two outings to be more ruthless as they aim to continue their winning run.
“It’s another big game for us, they’re all big games when you want to be right up there, I think we’re starting to build nicely, hopefully it’s only a matter of time before we start putting a few more goals away,” Piddick said.
“We’re certainly creating some opportunities so now it’s about being a little bit more efficient in front of goal, with that final action, that final pass, that final strike on goal.”
