Pre-Match Report- Strikers vs Knights Round Two

by Mark Majdandzic

With weather wreaking havoc around the South East the NPL Round Two clash against Brisbane Strikers has been moved to Queensland’s “Home of Football” Perry Park.

Both sides come into the clash having lost in the opening round, with Strikers coming away from their clash against Mackay with a 1-0 loss and the Knights falling 3-2 at the death to last year’s Champions Lions FC.

With new signing Marek Madle forced to serve a suspension after his double yellow last weekend, the Knights will be boosted with another key player returning from suspension in Cai Tipaldo.

The Strikers are in a re-shuffle mode under newly appointed coach John Kosmina, having had a high turnover of players in the off-season. With the overall expectations surrounding the club still at a certain level, they will be eager to bounce back especially at home against the Knights.

Knights have never lost to Brisbane Strikers in the NPL regular season, having picked up three wins and one draw in the four games they’ve played since 2019.

The one blimp on the match up is the 2019 FFA Cup run, where Strikers came to the Croatian Sports Centre and defeated the Knights 5-1 on route to the semi-finals where they eventually fell to Melbourne City FC.

All will be on the line come Sunday evening as the quest for the first three points of the 2021 season will be there for the taking.
