Pre-Game Report: Lions vs Knights Round One

by Mark Majdandzic

The start of any season brings new hopes, excitement and a buzz around for all the players, staff and supporters. With an eye on key match ups, derby days and home stands, round one begins with everyone on equal pegging, hoping for a successful season ahead.

With NPL Queensland Grand Final winners Lions FC away ahead of your Knights this evening, there are very few if any tougher trips.

Pre-season is an after thought now and all eyes will be on the squad as they look to kick off the campaign in style and make a statement to the title challengers for 2021.

Boasting an array of talent and new signings across the park, former Peninsula Power and Lions forward Marek Madle will be in the spotlight as he returns to his former team after signing in the off-season.

A proven goal scorer, Madle said that the preparation has been good so far.

Marek Madle played for the Lions in the 2019 season.

“It has been a great experience so far both on and off the field. There is a great buzz and vibe around the playing group and everyone around the team is providing us with great support,” said Madle.

Lions have gone through some changes of their own, with some squad changes and new signings coming into an already experienced and talented team.

With a fourth place finish last season and a finals run seeing them defeat Premiership winners Peninsula Power and Olympic FC in the Grand Final, the Richlands based outfit will be looking to make their mark on the league table in 2021.

In the corresponding fixture last year, the Knights came away with a 0-0 draw and will be looking to get their first win at Lions Stadium in the NPL regular season tonight.

Wear your red, white and blue and drive on up to support your Knights as they look to begin the season with a win!
