Gold Coast Knights have recorded their first win of the 2021 regular season, defeating Brisbane Strikers at Perry Park on Sunday evening.

After falling behind in the opening exchanges through a penalty, the Knights worked their way through the match, creating multiple opportunities throughout the first half without registering on the scoresheet.

It took until the 43rd minute for Knights to open the deadlock, after a fantastic ball into the box was met with the head of Jheison Macuace to score his first goal of the season and the night heading into the halftime break.

The second half started much better than the first, with the Knights attacking in the opening minutes and awarded a penalty for a late challenge in the box.

Up step Macuace again, sending the keeper the wrong way to give the Knights a 2-1 lead through his second goal of the match.

With chances falling frequently, Strikers goalkeeper was in fine form, stopping the damage getting worse as the half progressed.

However, there was no stopping Macuace on Sunday night, rocketing in his third goal and hat-trick just before the halfway point of the second half to give the Knights a two goal cushion.

The end of the match wasn’t as comfortable as it should have been, with Knights conceding with three minutes to go in normal time after a miscommunication at the back saw Strikers put some pressure late.

It wasn’t to be for Strikers, with Knights securing the 3-2 victory and the first three points of the 2021 regular season.

With rain continuing to effect the Gold Coast, a decision regarding the upcoming home fixture against Mackay will be made shortly.

Kick off is scheduled for 7:30pm on Saturday night at the Croatian Sports Centre.
