Gold Coast Knights won their fifth consecutive match in the NPL Queensland with a tough 2-1 win away from home against Logan Lightning.
The tricky away fixture against an in-form Logan team before the regular season break for FFA Cup proved to be a tight affair in the early stages with neither side being able to break the deadlock in the first half.
It was the Knights who earned a golden opportunity to convert from the penalty spot, however it was saved by Lugo in the Logan goal to keep the home side in the match.
Max Brown eventually broke the dead lock from outside the 18 yard box with a fantastic finish in the bottom corner to give the Knights a lead midway through the second half.
The Knights doubled their lead on the 84th minute mark after Cai Tipaldo pounced on a loose ball in the 6 yard box to get his first of the season.
A free kick in extra time deflected off the wall and rebounded to Sheriff in the box, making it a nervous end to the match for the Knights, eventually holding on for a 2-1 victory away from home.
The focus now turns on potentially two FFA Cup games in one week, with the Knights hosting Taringa Rovers on Tuesday night and with a win will host fellow NPL side Eastern Suburbs also at the Croatian Sports Centre.
