Gold Coast Knights are set to kick off their 2020 campaign when they host Olympic FC in the Grand Final re-match from 2019.
As wet weather struck, the Knights have sat patiently waiting to begin the 2020 campaign and will do so against a QLD football powerhouse in Olympic FC.
When asked about the difficulties the squad has faced due to the layoff, Head Coach Grae Piddick said that the side just want to get out and get things started.
“Obviously it’s been a difficult period of time for all of us. We haven’t been able to train properly because of the rain but this week we were able to get back to business. The boys have had enough of the interruptions and are raring to go,” said Piddick.
Having played Olympic in the final game of the 2019 campaign, Piddick acknowledged that every year they have been fighting for top honours.
“Olympic are always at the top fighting for season honours each season. They have a very good squad full of talented players so we know we are up for a tough game. We need to make sure that we start well considering they have already played two games so we have to be focused from the get go.”
With the pre-season well passed and the squad eager to get the campaign to a positive start, Piddick was expecting some flare especially in the front third.
“I’m expecting to see a strong, well gelled squad even though we have had some last minute changes. We’ve worked hard to prepare for this season and I’m sure we will play some entertaining and attacking football. We have a number of players who can score in different ways so it will be exciting to see how they go,” said Piddick.
The first home game of the season against Olympic FC kicks off at 6:30pm at the Croatian Sports Centre.
