Gold Coast Knights are looking to make it two wins from two to kick off the 2020 NPL season when they travel to Perry Park for the Round One catch up match against Brisbane Strikers.
After coming off a 3-1 victory against Olympic FC, the Knights face a Strikers who won their first match against Mackay 2-0 before falling to the hand of Brisbane City last weekend 2-1.
When asked about visiting the ground where they triumphed in the 2019 NPL final, Head Coach Grae Piddick said his side will go in with the same mindset as they were preparing with before the wash out.
“We prepared for this clash a few weeks ago now so the boys know what they have to do against a side like Strikers. They have quality all over the pitch which showed in the second half of last season and their FFA Cup run,” said Piddick.
It was the FFA Cup where the Strikers made their biggest inroad in the 2019 campaign, defeating Knights at the Croatian Sports Centre on their way to a semi-final match against Melbourne City.
The focus for the Knights and Piddick before this clash is purely on ensuring everyone is ready to go come game time.
“We know the importance of good recovery and being prepared to roll around tomorrow night. They pose a different threat and style so if we allow them to get that going then they will be dangerous,” said Piddick.
Jarrod Kyle will be available for selection as he served his one match suspension in the game against Olympic and will bring some fresh legs to the side.
“Having a short turn around and then the game coming up on the weekend again, we have to make sure we keep ourselves as fresh as possible. With Jarrod coming back he will give us a spark and freshness that will hopefully rub off on the rest of the playing group,” said Piddick.
