Match Report: GCK 3 Pen Power 0

Gold Coast Knights FC have maintained their perfect start to the 2020 NPL Queensland campaign with a 3-0 victory over Peninsula Power FC in Round 5 action!

After a nervous start to the match, the Knights composed themselves and took a 2-0 lead into the break courtesy of a Max Brown double and followed it up with a third goal in the second half through Jaiden Walker.

The result sees the Knights remain the only team with a perfect 4-0 start to the campaign, something that Head Coach Grae Piddick says was a great platform for the team to build on.

“Whenever you get a good win against a rival it is pleasing. We have started the season positively so it is a great stepping stone for us to build off for the remainder of the season,” said Piddick.

The Knights continue their clinical form in front of goal, however the defensive performance was the shining light according to Piddick.

“Keeping a clean sheet is always a positive as we have been working hard on making sure the goals that any goals that we may concede are worked for by the opposition. The defensive pairing (Wellsmore and Hofmann) are getting better each and every week so we’re grateful that they are able to come in and do the job,” said Piddick.

The focus now for the Knights turns to back to back fixtures against Moreton Bay United in the league and the FFA Cup respectively, with Round 6 action scheduled for this Saturday at 6:30pm at the Croatian Sports Centre.
