Match Report: Capalaba 1-3 Knights

Gold Coast Knights returned to the winners circle with a 3-1 victory over Capalaba at John Fredericks Park on Saturday night.

Strikes from Harrison Sawyer and Max Brown added to an own goal to secure the three points as Knights moved back level with Lions at the top of the NPL Queensland standings.

The home side struck first through Stuart Edgar in the 12th minute who latched onto a Jack Boxell free-kick and turned the ball past Richard Sarkis with a first time finish on a tight angle.

Knights restored parity just four minutes later courtesy of a Jake Sherwood own goal with the defender turning a Nic Panetta cross into his own net.

Knights found the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute through Harrison Sawyer, who chipped Bulldogs keeper, Michael Weier from distance to open his account for his new club.

Just two minutes later Max Brown scored Knights third, rifling a shot into the bottom corner from the top of the box to seal a 3-1 win.

Saturday’s match also saw Goalkeeper Richard Sarkis make his starting debut in place of the suspended Josh Langdon, while Luke Beckwith also debuted off the bench.

Speaking post-match, Knights Head Coach, Adem Poric said he was proud of the character shown by his side in Saturday’s match.

“It was a banana peel of a game, anything could happen, we could’ve come out and run over the top of them or kept sliding down a slippery slope.”

“We played some good football there, now it’s about capitalising on that and moving forward.

“There was a bit more intensity, a bit more unity, working hard pressing from the top that was the message today.

“The boys were a little bit low on confidence after a few results that didn’t go their way, they’ve had a big shift in the Club this week.

“We’ve closed the gap with Lions beating Power and we’re right back in it,” Poric said.

Knights now turn their attention to next Saturday’s match against Brisbane Strikers at the Croatian Sports Centre (6:30pm KO).
