The Gold Coast Knights are looking to make it four straight victories after their impressive beginning to the 2019 NPL campaign.
After a statement victory over struggling Redlands United last week, the Knights focus now turns to Sunshine Coast Fire.
Fire comes into the match after holding Brisbane Roar Youth to a 1-1 draw in tough conditions last weekend.
With the schedule destined to get tougher as the weeks continue, Head Coach Grae Piddick said his side need to focus on the game this week rather than look ahead.
“We know that the NPL season is gruelling and difficult. Sunshine Coast Fire have players that can hurt you and we have to make sure we are on our game.”
“After an impressive display last weekend, we cannot sit back and rest on that. We need to continue to push for more and improve our level of performance,” said Piddick.
With golden boot leader Sam Smith firing on all cylinders, it was the two P’s who did the damage early last weekend.
Nick Panetta and Jayden Prasad have started brilliantly for the Knights, and Smith was quick to praise the efforts of the two youngsters.
“With Jayden and Nick playing the way they are, it gives me the luxury of knowing that all the responsibility isn’t just on me to score.”
“Last week we showed why we are a threat all over the park. We have players that are all capable of scoring so it makes it a lot easier,” said Smith.
Smith continued that his impressive start can only get better as time goes on.
“In the early stages and during pre-season we were getting used to each other and the way we wanted to play. The staff have prepared us perfectly for all the games and it is showing now in our patterns of play.”
“I’m confident we can get another good result on the weekend for our fans,” said Smith.
