Gold Coast Knights have suffered their first defeat of the 2022 NPL Queensland season falling 1-0 way from home to Peninsula Power.

The home side took the lead on the 4th minute and the scoresheet was not troubled for the remainder of the match as Anthony Poljak’s free kick found its way into the back of the net.

It was another frustrating evening for the visitors not being able to convert in the attacking third which subsequently led to the draw against Sunshine Coast and the loss at Peninsula Power.

Prior to the match creative forward Pasquale De Vita was ruled out through injury in another blow for the red, white and blue.

The first half saw opportunities fall to the Knights on multiple occasions to no avail with flashes across goal unable to be steered in as the score remained 1-0 heading into the break.

The Knights created more opportunities in the second period but were unable to put the Power defence under consistent pressure as they did in the first half.

Knights keeper Josh Langdon was called into action one more time through the match with a good save midway through the half to leave the door open for another late rally as we have been accustomed to seeing.

However it wasn’t to be for the Knights this time around with the side failing to score for the first time this season and a subsequent loss as a result.

Knights Head Coach Scott McDonald said it was frustrating and they needed to respond as quickly as possible.

“We haven’t had the best fortune in the final third over the past two games so we know what we need to do. The fact we are creating chances is a positive however so we can build off that,” said McDonald.

The Knights now face an extended time off as they return home for a Sunday afternoon kick off against Eastern Suburbs. Kick off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
