Knights Eager For First Home Win

by Mark Majdandzic

With the first win on the board for the 2019 NPL Queensland season, the Knights host Toowoomba based SWQ Thunder in Round 3 action!

Having come away with a late winner last week to earn all three points, the Knights come back to the Croatian Sports Centre searching for their first home victory for the season.

Head Coach Grae Piddick was confident in the way the boys treated their preparation coming into the fixture.

“The boys have prepared really well for this weekend’s game. They have worked hard at training and confidence is high after last week’s win.”

“We had more success in front of goal last week but still had more chances that we could have converted, so I am hoping everything will click on the day and we can put a show on for our home crowd,” said Piddick.

After their first round draw with Brisbane Strikers and last week’s loss to Brisbane Roar Youth, SWQ Thunder will be eager to get their first three points of the campaign when they make the trip to the Gold Coast.

Midfielder Max Brown was quick to point out that the preparation the squad has had for this game has been great leading into the match.

“Grae and Sean have worked on the best tactic for us moving forward in the match and we are well prepared for what is to come.”

“They are a strong side and can hurt you in areas if you are not careful. We know it will be tough but we are confident we can get the job done in front of our home fans,” said Brown.

Having a different role than last year, Brown conceded that it has been challenging but something he knows will click completely sooner rather than later.

“With my role this year I am getting used to playing next to someone directly which was different than last season. We created plenty of chances in the first two rounds so hopefully we can do much of the same and convert them this week.”
