Knights Bounce Back with Midweek Win

SHAILER PARK, LOGAN | 06.05.22 | Mark Majdandzic

Gold Coast Knights FC have bounced back after two tough losses to secure a 4-0 victory against Logan Lightning on Wednesday night.

Facing a tricky trip to Cornubia Park the red, white and blue came out and held a large portion of the ball in the opening exchanges, creating various opportunities but failing to convert in the final third.

On the 16th minute mark Kristian Brymora hit the post in the first real major opportunity for the Knights and it would be Brymora who scored the opening goal with five to go in the half from a fantastic ball in from Nik Mirkovic to go into the half with a lead.

In the second half it was all going in the favour of the Knights, with Pasquale De Vita pivoting and scoring a fantastic goal on his return from injury on the 51st minute mark.

Nik Mirkovic joined in on the fun and turned from provider to scorer with his first goal for the club, finding the bottom corner just past the hour mark to extinguish any chance of a Lightning comeback.

A triple sub for the final 15 minutes saw Charlie Dixon make his first appearance for the Knights and converted his opportunity, adding the final touch to a 4-0 win with a superb finish in the final seconds of the match.

The win for the Knights came at a crucial point in the season with May being a pivotal month for the 2022 aspirations.

Knights coach Scott McDonald said he was delighted for the playing group.

“We just needed the first goal to go in and I have no complaints from the performance tonight. It is a tough place to come and they have been in good form of late,” said McDonald.

“I am delighted with the second half especially and seeing Nik and Charlie on the scoresheet for the first time is always a pleasing sight.”

The Knights now play in the first derby of the 2022 season at home against Gold Coast United on Saturday afternoon with kick off scheduled for 4:30pm.
